The Raid Gallaecia 2015 – Expedition Race Spain – has joined the Adventure Racing (AR) World Series, the premier circuit of endurance races held annually across the planet.
“I am pleased to announce the ARWS will be adding a Qualifier race in Spain for 2015. Spain is a powerhouse of adventure racing athletes and they will now have a qualifier in their country,” says AR World Series Director Craig Bycroft.
Raid Gallaecia is scheduled from 3 – 10 May 2015. The race of approximately 500km will include mountain biking, trail running, sea and river kayaking, coasteering and ropes. Winners are estimated to complete the course in 75 hours.

The Pontevedra is near the border of Spain and Portugal and is known for its coastlines, rivers, excellent weather and great cuisine. Our organisation has been hosting high level races for over 10 years and we plan to offer teams a great adventure, full of magical places and where they can feel the warmth of our people,” says Race Director Pablo López.
The Adventure Racing (AR) World Series unites in competition the world’s best endurance athletes at premiere Qualifier events around the globe. The top two teams at each of these races gain a coveted position on the start line of the annual pinnacle of the sport, the AR World Championship.
Adventure Racing is the ultimate race of human endurance. Teams of four athletes race non-stop, day and night, through courses up to 800km in length. Each course is a unique journey, including legs of mountain biking, trail running, kayaking and rope work. Teams must navigate using map and compass through remote wilderness checkpoints. They battle not only other teams, but also extreme fatigue, sleep deprivation and unpredictable weather. If one team member quits, the entire team is unclassified. Often just reaching the finish line is a victory.
