Racing The Planet’s 4 Deserts event, Atacama Crossing, a 7-day self-sufficient foot race, is currently underway. Capetonian runner Ryan Sandes popularised this company’s 4 Desert Series here in SA when he won in Gobi and the Sahara (2008). News coming through this evening, at the end of Stage 1, sees Ryan in first place.

The date for the 10th annual Swazi Xtreme have changed from end-April to 6-9 August 2010. “For reasons within our control, and before such reasons are outside our control, we wish to advise of the postponement of the Swazi Xtreme 2010,” says race director Darron Raw.

In the past participants in the Freedom Challenge have battled through snowstorms and subzero temperatures. It has developed a reputation of being the toughest endurance race in the South Africa. 2010 will be no different as the 2010 Freedom Challenge will again take place in the heart of the South African winter.
Numbers have settled on nine novice teams for Diamond Dash 50km weekend after this. These three person teams consist of one experienced person, who will guide the team, and two novices – people new to the sport of adventure racing. Although some novices have completed shorter sprint races, most have never done an adventure race.

I’m collecting names of novices who would like to participate in Diamond Dash 50km, Cullinan on 20 February, under the guidance of experienced racers. I’m making up teams of three: one experienced person with two novices. This is the last call for novices to submit their names.
