Team Green Things racing in Canada

Two South Africans, Jeremy Green and Sam Bladergroen, are racing in the four-day staged adventure race Raid International Gaspesie. The race starts today with a prologue and finishes on Sunday. They’re racing – for obvious reasons – as Team Green Things.

A few weeks back Jeremy posted this photo, showing off his appropriately-themed race kit.

“We have been shopping up a storm getting all our green kit – Amazon has certainly benefited from this, and we will be all in green for the four days of racing. Got a green hat in the mail and a green backpack too to round off the look,” he says.

This is Jeremy’s second time at this race. Back in 2008 he travelled to the race (same organiser and company – different name) with Phillip van der Leeuw. They placed 3rd overall.

Jeremy and Sam met through a common friend in 2004 and they’ve competed in races together in the 10 years since.

Checking in at registration

Jacques Marais is over at the race. I’m expecting to get lots of news and photos from him of our team.

The race takes place in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region of Quebec, a 10hr drive from Montreal.

“Sea, mountains, and rivers await to offer sailing, canoeing-kayaking, fishing, hiking, and swimming in the warmest Gaspésie waters. Culture and history lovers will enjoy exploring Miguasha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the many museums and interpretation centres that will introduce them to the region’s rich culture. Each village boasts its own uniqueness, festival, or celebration,” says the race website.

The prologue is a fast-paced 20km stage. There after stages 2-4 are 100km, 100km and 80km in distance respectively.

Good luck Green Things.
