A super report by William Cairns on his recent experience at a solo, non-stop AR in the South-west of England. “After having decided a while ago that I wanted to do an overseas race, I did a whole lot of internet searching and discovered the South West Coast 2 Coast race in the South-west of England.”
After all the planning, map plotting, route choices, packing, getting bikes ready, finding the loo and general pre-race activities the race was about to start.

The inaugural WCAD long course adventure race took place this past weekend at the iconic Gravity Adventure Festival, just outside Kleinmond in the Western Cape. The series, which is aimed at promoting the sport of Adventure Racing, includes 3 x 100km events, and 1 x 250km event to be held early 2012.
Like all the mornings that week, Sunday 31st July 2011 was very cold. What was different was that instead of being asleep, in bed at 5am, Steve and I were at Jabali Private Game Reserve doing the finishing touches for the Senseless Winter Adventure Race.
Christian Maurer (SUI1) has won the Red Bull X-Alps 2011, landing in Monaco this afternoon. He completed the 864 km course in just under 11 days, 4 hours and 22 minutes.
?James Braid, Pierre Carter’s support, has sent through a report describing their last few days of racing at Red Bull X-Alps.
This morning, Day 10, Pierre Carter was eliminated from the Red Bull X-Alps event. After the first three days of racing, the event eliminates back-enders at regular intervals. At 07h00 this morning, Pierre’s phone rang; the anticipated call from the organisers informing him of elimination.
Pierre Carter’s support, James Braid, has sent through another update. Today, Sunday 24 July is Day 8.
A report just received from James Braid, support for Pierre Carter (RSA) at Red Bull X-Alps. The race started around noon on Sunday, 17 July 2011. Today, Thursday, is Day 5. Thus far Pierre has covered 478km. His Day 4 was massive with a whopping 96km on foot!
