A week ago Ryno Griesel and Ryan Sandes finished the gnarliest 41 hours of their lives.
At 00h00 – midnight – on Monday, March 24, Ryan Sandes and Ryno Griesel set off into the darkness from Witsieshoek car park. Their goal: to conquer the Drakensberg Grand Traverse faster than anyone had before. The previous record stood at 60h 29m 30s. Realistically, they were looking to run sub-50 and perhaps to go as low as 45.
They trotted into the finish at Bushman’s Nek on Tuesday afternoon in a time of 41h 49m. Ryan called it a “life-changing experience”. Ryno said it was “a dream come true, after years of planning”.
This is a three-minute clip of their journey.
