As I was overseas, Metrogaine Blairgowrie on 21 June 2012 was handled by Fred and Garry and happy helpers from Adventure Racing Club in my absence. Also thanks to the ‘Orienteering moms’ who served hot chocolate and steaming soup, which I hear was delicious, to finishers.
In terms of results, I made a COMPLETE mess of things for this event. I only got the results string from Fred months later and then it sat in my storeroom waiting for a gap after organising FEAT in October, attending a British Orienteering Federation Coaching Course, scouting and planning Forest Run and writing the activities and games for the second level of the school orienteering programme. Preparing to sort through the results in December I pulled the bag from the storeroom and left it on a table. My domestic helper, thinking it was for paper recycling, put it in the recycling bin… Two days later I went to get the papers – gone! *sigh*
I sincerely apologise. If you think that you won your category (male pair, female pair, mixed on the 90-min and 60-min courses), please let me know and I’ll extend a free entry to you for the April event.
Nonetheless, I wanted to put up the map here. I changed it considerably from previous events to make it more ‘orienteering-style’. Definitely easier to read in the dark by headlamp. Participants also received an orienteering map of Delta Park for an interesting ‘night orienteering’ section in the Park.
Piers Pirow sent through a map of his tracks. For sure Piers would have been a top scorer.
The next Metrogaine Jo’burg event will be on Thursday, 11 April 2013. I’ll only publish event, venue and entry information in mid-March, after Forest Run. You’ll find it on this Metrogaine Jo’burg page. In the interim you can join the Metrogaine Jo’burg email notification list. I use this list to send past and interested Metrogaine participants early-bird entry information and discount vouchers plus entry information and results.
