Lisa's Profile
Although Lisa received her honours degree in medical cell biology, her passion for sport and adventure has dominated her career direction. She remains fascinated with science, medicine and physiology which, combined with her love of writing, people, sport and endurance events, fuels her seemingly boundless energy.

Lisa is an experienced adventure racer having competed in numerous events over 250km. She also participates in off-road ultra marathons, favouring staged ultra foot-races. Running and orienteering are her primary sporting disciplines, with a healthy dose of yoga, gym and step aerobics thrown in for good measure. She procrastinates about mountain biking and paddling, more from the effort needed to get out there than from the actual activities. She only needs to step outside her door to run.

A freelance journalist, Lisa regularly writes for Runner's World SA, GoMulti Magazine and Sports Guide. She has had articles published in Good Taste Magazine, Shape, Men's Health Buyer's Guide, Mitshubishi's Xplore magazine and other publications.

After working for herself for many years, in June 2006 Lisa accepted a position at Let's Play, the non-profit arm of Supersport. Let's Play addresses the problems of increasing obesity, inactivity and social ills - related to lack of sport - of South African children. In November 2008 Lisa started working for marketing solutions company, Penquin International as the PR Account Director for their new Public Relations section. She left the confines of full-time office-based employment in mid-June 2009 to again work on her own. Her new company, Loopy, specialises in public relations, event media and the representation of adventure athletes and their sponsors in the media. Lisa is currently working mostly full-time for a long-term client, Active Education, as the project manager for their UNICEF Sport for Development programme.

Lisa's most recent project is FEAT, Fascinating Expedition & Adventure Talks, an evening of time-limited presentations by South African adventurers. The first FEAT evening was held on Thursday, 7 October 2010 at Wits Theatre in Jo'burg. The next one will be in Cape Town in February 2011. The event website is www.featsa.co.za.

Lisa is the co-author, with Jacques Marais, of Adventure Racing, a hefty full-colour, hard cover book on adventure racing. The book was released in the UK at the end of 2004 and in the US and Canada at the beginning of 2005. She wrote the copy for Wouter Kingma's beautiful coffee table book on the 2008 edition of the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge.

Lisa is the owner and editor of South Africa's adventure racing website, www.ar.co.za. She is 34 and lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
