Less than 500nm to row

Solo, trans-Atlantic ocean rower Peter van Kets now has less than 500nm to row to Antigua. Tough weather conditions and a competitive solo rival, Charlie Pitcher, meant that Pete lost out on winning the solo category and setting a solo record. He’s in contention for second. Pete is  still going strong, even after being at sea for just over two months.

According to a post on his website, Pete can still become “the first African to have rowed solo across any ocean, and the first rower to complete the pairs trans–Atlantic crossing first, followed by the solo class. Unfortunately a win in the solo class is out of the question this time round – all credit to the superb Charlie – but keep your eye on Dave Brooks on Team Panasonic. The young, strong Brit is keeping within striking distance of our Pete. The last few days of the race could get mighty interesting as they race for second and third place.”

Pete’s daily posts are good reading. You can follow this final stretch on www.own-your-life.co.za and also on his Facebook fan page.
