We were very excited about the opportunity to have a kind of ‘dry run’ for Expedition Africa in terms of the unsupported nature of the race and to judge fitness levels and test out some different foods. I think many teams had the same idea and it was a good, solid test!
Pure Adventures consists of a squad of Bloem adventurers who are all keen to do a race from time to time. The idea was that we use the Double Moon as a dress rehearsal to gauge how we were doing for the BIG one in later in May.
The Kinetic Double Moon 250km AR, sponsored by Salomon, engraved some great memories into not only my mind, but I am sure a lot of other adventure seekers’ minds too. Lizelle and I were very excited when Alex Pope and Steven Erasmus agreed to join us for the race in the Freestate.
An adventure race does not start when the proverbial gun goes at 5am on race morning, but way before with the preparation required by all the teams to get a fully fit and functional team to the starting line. For Senseless Linebreak this was an adventure in its-self and kicked off the Kinetic Double Moon in the most dramatic way possible.
While answering another ‘what is adventure racing?’ question, I mentioned two people and described them as “good racers”. My colleague asked, “What makes them good racers?.” This is a great question because there is a distinction between being a good athlete and a good adventure racer.
Keeping our eye on the AR World Series… The Huairasinchi Race, in Ecuador, has been won by Thule Adventure Team. The team consisted of Captain Martin Flinta, Per Vestling, Jacky Boisset, and Myriam Guillot.
Imagine a place where crystal clear turquoise lakes give way to dense montane forests and steep rugged mountains. Imagine a place where the light of billions of stars light up the high mountain peaks around you and where rolling wilderness extents further than the eye can see…
