I could hardly believe that 72 runners would brave a navigation event, at night and in the dead of winter. But they did and within minutes of the start they were warmed up and running through the suburbs surrounding Zoo Lake.

The Kinetic Double Moon 250km AR, sponsored by Salomon, engraved some great memories into not only my mind, but I am sure a lot of other adventure seekers’ minds too. Lizelle and I were very excited when Alex Pope and Steven Erasmus agreed to join us for the race in the Freestate.

A good number of AR-ers attended this weekend’s flat water proficiency test at Emmarentia Dam on Saturday afternoon. AR Club and Tshwane AR Club have been encouraging adventure racers to do their flat water proficiency test – ultimately you are responsible for your safety.

OTTER Trail Record Shattered. Again!

The OTTER African Trail Run, presented by Hi-Tec, undoubtedly rates as the Holy Grail of off-road running. Yesterday saw the five-hour barrier on this race broken only for the second time in history, when winner John Collins rampaged home in a blistering 4hrs 56min. Collins’ reign as Otter King was, however, short-lived.

i-gotU GPS logger

This little GPS logger, the i-gotU GT-120 is a fabulous gadget, commonly used in orienteering circles to log tracks as GPS units with screen display are not allowed. I’ve found the i-gotU especially useful for logging my orienteering race tracks as well as recording paddling distances during training sessions.

Lottery entry for Namib Desert Challenge

As I am unable to attend the Namib Desert Challenge (21-25 February 2010) presented by Kinetic Events, my entry, which I received after winning ladies last year, is up for grabs. The usual entry fee is €995.00 (EUR) per competitor, which is around R10,750. My entry is going for a R1,500 admin fee.
