We were off to a little bit of a slow start with my dear wife, Lizelle, trying to catch her breath on the first run leg. I personally think it was more nerves about racing with Alex for the first time than anything else. We came into the first transition feeling that we might have some catch-up to do.
After a bit of break from AR to complete another year of studying, I am very excited about getting some good races under the belt in 2011! We have entered a mixed team for Expedition Africa in May and have a number of other events planned in the build up to this race.
Senseless hosted their second event and the first of 2011, at Ezemvelo Nature reserve. Senseless Summer Adventure was a sprint race aimed at novices to the sport but had a number of OP’s to keep the more experienced teams on their toes.
What an absolutely amazing venue. There is something to be said for having the privilege of participating in a race in a game reserve. Europeans and Americans – eat your heart out.
Although FEAT, an evening of talks celebrating South African adventurers, focuses on adventure and expedition-themed presentations, other topics aligned to sport and outdoor pursuits are also featured.
What a great race! Where do I start? Friday turned into a mad rush to pack in the whole family; we had to turn back to Bronkhorstspruit to fill up with fuel – got moaned at by the whole family for not watching the fuel dial.
The Mnweni Cultural Centre provided an awesome venue for an adventure race, with great access to the Drakensberg, but this meant that the event would have a fair amount of climbing and Bruce was there to ensure that there was a lot of climbing.
