Adventure racing legend Robyn Benincasa is passing through Jo’burg next week with seven other Project Athena runners en route to run in the Namib Desert Challenge. Join us, next Tuesday 16 February, for drinks/dinner at 2Thai4 on Corlett drive, Jo’burg.

On the weekend of 22-24 January, Team Cyanosis’ Ryno Griesel and Nicholas Mulder made their first attempt to break the record of the Drakensberg Grand Traverse. Weather conditions were tough, but it was finally the high altitude that was their undoing, halting our attempt after 25 hours, 38 minutes at the 89km mark of the Grand Traverse.
Entry for the First Ascent Mast Challenge on Saturday, 17th April is now open (from 1 February 2010). The 11km route ascends from the Tokai Picnic area to the Summit of Constantiaberg. The race is against the clock and against gravity – 900 metres of it! This is a unique challenge, with a limited entry field. Trail run, MTB ride and both.
I’m collecting names of novices who would like to participate in Diamond Dash 50km, Cullinan on 20 February, under the guidance of experienced racers. I’m making up teams of three: one experienced person with two novices. This is the last call for novices to submit their names.
The expected ‘BIG STORM’ hit the fleet on Wednesday, sending the rowers into their cabins to wait it out. Although Peter van Kets is further South than most of the other transAtlantic rowers, he hasn’t escaped the storm.
CT-to-Beit-Bridge walker, Ray Chaplin, has been on the road for 30 days. On Thursday, 29 Jan, heading towards Hopetown, Ray clocked his 1000th kilometre covered. He is now 120km from Kimberley and he should get there in another four days.
