The team started racing on Sunday, 20 February and wrapped up their race 6 days later in 4th place. They lost a lot of time on the first trekking section, playing catch up throughout the rest of the race. On suggesting that a win was within reach had they not erred on that trekking leg Brian Gardner replied:
Ja, we probably could have come close to the win, but the team that won were very strong, it would have been a tough one! They lead from the start and didn’t let up. If we hadn’t got lost on the first hike (we only lost 16 hours actually), we would have got to other technical sections of the race at night, instead of during the day, so not sure what could have happened then… But that’s AR! It was great fun though.
Team Red Ants will speak about their adventure at Adventure Racing Club in Jo’burg on Thursday, 17 March at Kinetic Gear @ Exercise and Nutrition Centre (cnr North & Rivonia roads, Rivonia). Open from 18h30. Start at 19h00.
