Lilyfontein Adventure Race

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: Could include: the beach, single track, gravel, Undulating coastline.Features include coastline and immediate interior, ocean views.PRIZES / PRIZE MONEY:

Over R10 000 of prize money to be won; Loads of Lucky Draw prizes.

Team Format: solo or teams
Entry fee: R90 to R360 (depending on course)

 

RACE DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Corporate Challenge and Corporate Duo (± 110kms): Cycling, running/hiking and may include paddling and other activities including kloofing, orienteering.
  • Corporate Crocs and Corporate Crocs Duo (±60km): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as paddling (boats will be provided), tubing, archery, abseiling, obstacles, swimming, target shooting and horse riding.
  • U/19 (±60km): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as paddling (boats will be provided), tubing archery, abseiling, obstacles, swimming, target shooting and horse riding.
  • U/15 (±45kms): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as paddling (boats will be provided), tubing archery, abseiling, obstacles, swimming, target shooting and horse riding.
  • U/13 (±30kms): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as paddling (boats will be provided), tubing archery, abseiling, obstacles, swimming, target shooting and horse riding.
  • Family (must include an adult)/Fun Race (±30kms): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as paddling (boats will be provided), tubing archery, abseiling, obstacles, swimming, target shooting and horse riding.
  • Grade 4-5 (±12kms): Cycling, running/hiking and may include other activities such as tubing, climbing and obstacles.
  • Grade 1-3 (±6kms): Cycling, running/hiking and many fun obstacles.

This is the provincial qualifying race for the SA Schools Adventure Racing Championships.

All teams must consist of 4 members of which at least one member must be of the opposite gender.  Corporate Duo and Corporate Crocs Duo consist of 2 team members of any gender.

There is a maximum of 30 teams per category.

    RACE DISTANCE

    The race will cover approximately 25 km’s.

    • Duration between 2 and 4 hours.
    • Cycling 65%, trekking 25 %, kayaking 10 %
    • Approx. 16-19 km cycling and 5 - 6 km running and 1 km kayaking, broken up into various legs.

    RACE DISCIPLINES

    • Mountain biking – teams should be prepared for a range of riding including single track, steep hills, gravel roads and sealed roads.
    • Trekking – Will involve traveling by foot through rugged terrain.
    • Kayaking –  Kayaks and paddles will be provided by race organizers. Fluid Synergy kayaks will be used. These kayaks are very stable and suitable for novices.
    • Orienteering – basic orienteering is an extremely important part of the race. The course is not marked and teams are required to navigate using the map. If you can read a street map you will be fine.
    • Obstacle course - an inflatable obstacle course will test your team skills and your last remaining strength.
